The adventures and experiences here told occurred in South Africa before 1875,and when the narrators were under 21.They were taken from diaries,letters journals and memoirs,many not previously published or not readily available.The purpose of this collection is to take a fresh look at the British tradition in our country;for a change,to pass over the commentaries of men and women who arrived here as mature and formed characters;to look instead,at Africa as it appeared through the eyes of the impressionable under -twenties;those whom Africa was to shape,and who were to shape Africa.

H/b in nice clean boards,corners bumped,in a pictorial d/w somewhat shelf-rubbed and edge-worn.Size 9×6 pp 12+275,three double page maps in the back.plates,inc frontispiece in prelims.Hinges strong.Binding firm.Quite a lot of underlining in the text with notes in the margins,manly in the front and rear sections of the book ,fortuneatly these are all in pencil and could be painstakenly rubbed out.If that were done you would end up with a good -good clean copy.
