Olive Emily Albertina Schreiner,(1855-1920)South African author.During theAnglo-Boer War,she took the part of the Boer Republics.Her elequent defence of the Boers led to alienation from her English-speaking family and many of her friends,isolation,ostracism and vituperation,and she spent the greater part of the war in the small Karoo village of Hanover,experiencing intense loneliness and depression,and suffering a breakdown from which she never fully recovered.This book containes her unpublished letters.
