General Sir. Ian Standish Monteith Hamilton. (1853-1947) died aged 94.British soldier.born in Corfu,served in Afghanistan 1878,followed in 1880 by the Majuba Campaign in South Africa.Served in the 1st. and 2nd.Boer Wars,and during the 1st.World War,he held command in the Dardenelles Campaign.He was a resourceful,confident and optimistic officer,but lacked the relentless drive,necessary for high command.

H/b in reasonable boards,with some markings and a faded spine,no d/w.Size 9×6 pp 280,inc.index,plates as reproduced b/w photographs,inc.frontispiece,page maps,plus decorated maps to both front and back end-papers.There is a signature on the ffe/p and half-title page with date,also on verso end-paper.Outer edges deckled.Hinges strong.Binding good to firm.No foxing or staining,slightly age-browned.Otherwise internally clean and bright throughout.
