Chaka – An Historical Romance.

This study of the rise and fall of the founder of the Zulu nation which was originally written in Sesuto was first published in 1931. It has been widely recognised as a work of great imaginative power, recreating the career of Chaka, the chief who founded the Zulu nation out of many small tribes and built a standing army which swept through South-Eastern Africa. While not historically accurate in all its details, it brings out vividly the situation which Chaka strove for and that he was eventually corrupted by power.
