African Portraits

Entitled “African Portraits”. This book sets out to paint an artist’s impression based on the lives of 3 of the most colourful and controversial characters in South Africa during the middle and end periods of the 19th Century: 1) Cecil John Rhodes 1853-1902, dying young at 49, Statesman and Empire builder,the greatest influence on African history.  2) Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger,1825-1904 ,died aged 79. Last President of the South African Republic, and generally recognised as the greatest figure Afrikanderdom has produced. 3) Lobengula, 1836-1894, died aged 58. Last King of the vast African Matabele people. He was a very influential character in the original founding of Rhodesia.

H/b in the original boards,with some general markings and some slight corner wear,no d.w.Size 8×5 pp 480,inc,index,various appendixes,inc,sources,diagrams in text.Hinges strong.Binding good to firm.Slightly age browned,There are some small ink-dots in the list of sources,where items have been sellected.Mapped end papers,with small booksellers label,one or two of the leaves are slightly damaged at the bottom edge otherwise internally nice and clean throughout.
